Wow…

I recently learned to whistle as well! (in my late 30s). I’m bad at it, but finally can make a recognizable tune.

More recently though I’ve learned to cut my own hair :)

I don’t remember all of the details, but I thought it was essentially the water’s surface tension that foots the energy bill when climbing a paper towel or a capillary in a tree.

The surface of fluids like water are unhappy. Molecules on the surface would much rather be deep in the fluid because on the surface they have “dangling” Van der Waals & polar bonds to one side. You can calculate the potential energy of the surface due to all of those dangling weak bonds, & that’s the energy that is used to climb a capillary (the energy isn’t free).

I could be misremembering though, I admit. School was many years ago…

Nice clothes. She likes Free People, Anthropology, & Sundance. I try to choose a dress or jacket or something I think she might like (always get a gift receipt though!)

Small things. Sounds. The temperature of the air. The fact that my side isn’t hurting right now. The kids costumes who were just trick or treating at my house.

I’d rather teenagers be trick or treating than doing other stuff. If they come to my house they’ll get candy for sure.

If it’s a topic I’m super passionate about & there’s no community on Lemmy then sure. But I’m not going to start a new Lemmy community every time I want to post a random dog photo or whatever.

I’m Lemmy 99%. Can’t do 100% because sometimes there isn’t an equivalent community on Lemmy so I have no choice but to use Reddit.

“Minetest” was a clunky name. Wish they’d have changed the name sooner.

What do you mean? That’s the same layout as the SNES controller, & it’s what most of the retro handhelds use.

Also, it’s running Linux so it’s easy to remap the buttons to a custom layout if desired.

Depending on the car you might be able to physically disable telemetry. Here are some thoughts/ideas I’ve been collecting:

• Hit “SOS” button and opt-out of all services through customer service. This of course requires trusting the company to actually do it.
  • It’s possible that the info could be stored locally and then uploaded when it gets serviced though
• Remove the fuse to the modem/data communication module (DCM)
• Disconnect wiring to the LTE antennas
• A number of people have mentioned that they can get the dealer to disconnect the telemetry as a precondition to buying. For instance, here.
• Jump the data communication module (DCM) cable with a ~$70 dongle to bypass just the telematics components
• Disconnect the DCM cable, which will likely gimp the infotainment if not other systems, or remove the entire DCM unit

The part you remember was not about eating the animal due to hunger. He was observing that when he was away from “civilization” for long enough he noticed that he started to think in a more primal way. In that case, it was tearing a squirrel to shreds raw with his teeth! (or something) :)

Looked up “cromulent” in the dictionary. Wasn’t disappointed!!

He didn’t write “like it’s life or death”! Most of the book are meditations on nature and descriptions of landscape. If that’s what you came away with then you missed the point.
