  • Couple thoughts I have:

    • I’m definitely open to moving instances so that we can do the high seas links again. There’s also some instances that world isn’t federated with so moving to one that’s a bit more open might gain some more people so think we can gain some visibility here.
    • I like the idea for fantasy basketball and would be willing to help organize and post about it since I’m in a couple leagues.
    • For the fediverse as a whole think we may need to venture back to Reddit a bit to try to peel off some people there. We need to make sure Lemmy is known as an alternative so people know where to go as Reddit gets worse and worse.

  • The text of the deal prevents Hezbollah from carrying out “any operations” against Israel, but it states that Israel will refrain from “any offensive military operations” against Lebanese targets. “It’s kind of a bit insidious where they say ‘offensive,’ meaning somehow there’s this little kind of wiggle room for what they will interpret as defensive, which in Israeli logic and discourse and action means anything,” Makdisi said. “Anything can happen. They can say, ‘Well, this is defense.’ Even the genocide in Gaza, as far as they’re saying, is defensive.” Both Netanyahu and Biden emphasized that the ceasefire was conditioned on the principle that Israel would not be bound by the same rules as Lebanon. “Let me be clear: If Hezbollah or anyone else breaks the deal and poses a direct threat to Israel, then Israel retains the right to self-defense consistent with international law, just like any country when facing a terrorist group pledged to that country’s destruction,” Biden said. He offered no comment on the rights of the Lebanese to protect themselves from Israeli violations or direct threats to their security.

Yeah very little chance this lasts long since Israel has stated everything they do is “defensive”. Murdering unarmed children, bombing hospitals, a literal genocide is all “defensive” to them.

The specific comment I responded to was talking about whether liberals are leftists.

If you’re asking whether I believe liberals support a little wealth distribution (specific amount depends on the individual) in the form of taxes for social programs I’d say yes the meme isn’t absolutely correct.

I’d also probably recommend to you just to save you time is to not take leftist memes (or any really) as a literal/specific endorsement of a policy or idea, it’s likely an exaggeration.

Didn’t say you couldn’t attempt some wealth redistribution under capitalism but it’s not really related to what the discussion was. The left/right dichotomy for political economics isn’t based on whether there’s an attempt at wealth redistribution it’s whether the economic system is capitalism.

Also at the end of the day you can try to gain concessions from the capitalist class through social programs but there’s a hard limit on what will be allowed and as soon as the capitalist class is able to they will push for austerity for the working class. It’s been seen numerous times in history.
