Surely they will also sanction the Israeli government who has been actively “protecting” settlers and encouraging them to illegally move to the West Bank…surely…
It is clearly an attempt to recover from low approval rate among tax payer who don’t want to see their tax money going to destroy kids with no accountability. Especially, those who work inside the white house.
The current government of Israel is a party that used to be the Irgun, a famous terrorist organization ( US and UK called it that after the bombed their hotels) yet, they ignore that and send them billions of dollars with ( no accountability )
This money goes directly to settler and other militants in the west bank to destroy villiages, homes, and olive trees, along with terrorizing and killing families.
Saying something is cheap for politician, doing it is another issue.
As a president, he doesn’t even need to write an op, he is the damn president he can do these things…
Here’s the actual OpEd Biden wrote. I think he has good takes on very complex topics
Overall message is nice, but its deceptive too, where he phrases the violent almost genocidal actions against the Palestinians as the work of a few Israeli extremists… instead of it being the party line of the entire IDF.
These are placating words at worst, but I can sense that he does feel genuinely nervous about public support for Palestine… as he should.
I think the problem is it feels like he’s doing political damage control. It’s better than nothing, but doesn’t give me any renewed hope in the administration regaining any kind of moral authority in this conflict.
Can you show me where in this OpEd Biden “phrases the violent almost genocidal actions against the Palestinians as the work of a few Israeli extremists?” I don’t see anything like that in there. Instead, his messages seem directed to Israel as an entire country:
While in Tel Aviv, I also counseled Israelis against letting their hurt and rage mislead them into making mistakes we ourselves have made in the past.
From the very beginning, my administration has called for respecting international humanitarian law, minimizing the loss of innocent lives and prioritizing the protection of civilians. Following Hamas’s attack on Israel, aid to Gaza was cut off, and food, water and medicine reserves dwindled rapidly. As part of my travel to Israel, I worked closely with the leaders of Israel and Egypt to reach an agreement to restart the delivery of essential humanitarian assistance to Gazans. Within days, trucks with supplies again began to cross the border. Today, nearly 100 aid trucks enter Gaza from Egypt each day, and we continue working to increase the flow of assistance manyfold. I’ve also advocated for humanitarian pauses in the conflict to permit civilians to depart areas of active fighting and to help ensure that aid reaches those in need. Israel took the additional step to create two humanitarian corridors and implement daily four-hour pauses in the fighting in northern Gaza to allow Palestinian civilians to flee to safer areas in the south.
Its a but further down, but I interpreted this part:
I have been emphatic with Israel’s leaders that extremist violence against Palestinians in the West Bank must stop and that those committing the violence must be held accountable.
To me that’s saying, its just a few extremists carrying out the massacres and those few extremists will be held accountable.
I prefer a one state solution VS two state one, but i guess this is better than no state.
“The United States is prepared to take our own steps, including issuing visa bans against extremists attacking civilians in the West Bank.”
Brutal.
The question is, why wouldn’t they do that right now? Extremists have attacked civilians, does it really matter whether Israel’s government also holds them accountable for our reaction? They’re terrorists regardless of what the regime does. The regime’s choices just determine whether they (the regime) shelter and support terrorists.
But that’s evil BDS!
Could. Won’t.
Yep. Would have day 1 if they cared cuz this has been going on for decades.
You’re so edgy and contrarian!
I’d love to be wrong.
Why not wait and see? Biden’s administration seems to be busy behind the scenes. International politics is crazy complicated. They’ve brokered a tentative pause which is more than people bitching about Biden have done.
You don’t see everything going on.
Why not wait and see?
That defeats the purpose of making a prediction.
Here’s a question, was the holocaust a complicated issue? People only seem to throw that when it comes to the palestine issue. Why doesn’t Biden for example in act this already against the “extremists” that have killed children and innocent civilians? Their “humanitarian” pauses do nothing more than extend out the genocide that’s currently happening to a longer time span.
What would that look like for Israelis?
