I’m a 17 year old transsexual (ftm) and I am yet to medically transition. I pass decently well, and some people in my school have no idea I’m trans. The problem is - my name is not changed on school records. This means that my deadname is on the rosters. I am not changing it in the school records until I’m 18 as my mother is transphobic.
I have to break stealth with my teachers, and they are aware of my name. They treat me like a guy. However, the problem is when substitute teachers come in — they can deadname me on attendance as my legal name is reflected.
What I used to do was tell them I do not go by the name on the roster, and to please call me my correct name when taking attendance. Sometimes they’d slip up and say “[DEADNAME] - I’m sorry, [preferred name]” which defeats the purpose of telling them.
I’m extremely fearful tomorrow because we are having a sub in one of my classes. That specific class - I am 100% stealth to everyone. No one is aware I am trans and sees me as a boy. I don’t want to break stealth to my peers, and I would like advice on how you guys handle subs. Thanks!
