This is the parade on Moscow's Red Square devoted to the 62nd anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, 7 November 1979. This parade took place on the eve of the Soviet deployment to Afghanistan (already plans were in the works at the time of this parade), a conflict the Soviets would be involved in for nearly ten years (from December 1979 through February 1989). Taking the salute is Minister of Defense of the USSR, Marshal of the Soviet Union Dmitriy Ustinov. Commanding the parade is commander of the Moscow Military District, General of the Army Vladimir Govorov. Music performed by the Combined Orchestra of the Moscow Garrison conducted by Colonel Nikolai Mikhailov. Part II here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M91xE8iLe5o
