Nearby Share is a very apt name - it basically describes exactly what the entire point of it is. You can use it to quickly (and easily) share stuff between Android phones, regardless of maker. And starting today, you can use it to share files between Windows PCs and Android devices.
friendly reminder that KDE Connect is a thing, and that it works between multiple platforms and lets you do much more than just copy the files over the network.
And it is open-source, and not dependent on Google who might just kill this feature in the future anyway.
I like the idea but I could never get KDE connect to work over VPN :(
works fine with Mullvad for me, I just had to enable “local network sharing” in Mullvad app’s settings. using split tunneling to exclude KDE Connect from routing through VPN would most likely work, too.
Kde connect is great
Just think, somebody probably got paid to come up with that name. How do I get that job?

Gleemonex!
I wonder if Linux would join in as well
That is honestly such a boring name. Google is so terrible at naming things.
It’s boring, but like someone else mentioned it tells you exactly what it does. So, I don’t really see a problem with it.
For me, it’s just another sign of how uncreative Google can be. They couldn’t even think of an original name for their folding phone, just copied Samsung’s naming. To me, it’s a little thing that actually indicative of a deeper problem.
I use this one to transfer big and small files and works very well.
Fancy, never even knew they were working on this, cheers
Pairdrop/snapdrop is good and no need for installation
