“It’s a little personal when a majority male state Supreme Court suggests that people like me who became pregnant with the help of modern medicine should be in jail cells and not nurseries," said bill author Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), the mother of two daughters conceived through IVF.

“[Hyde-Smith] said at one point the bill would allow for chimeras — human-animal hybrids — it does nothing of the sort,” Duckworth said. “All the bill says, is if you want to seek reproductive technology you can, if you want to provide it you can, and if you want to cover it as an insurance company you can.”

Fuck, I wish she was running for president…

Senator Duckworth lost her legs when a helicopter she was piloting had an accident. They loaded her up on a medivac, which started taking fire. She returned fire. True warrior.

Okay I for real cannot tell if you’re being serious. Where the hell was she coptering that the medivac would take fire?? Was she deployed military or something?? And then why the hell was the patient being transported even in a position where they could return fire and not strapped the fuck down to prevent her from bleeding out?? I’m so confused.

Here is a segment of an interview she did on the event. If you’d rather, you can read this fantastic article about it from chicagomag.com. I highly recommend the article. It really gives you a powerful sense of how chaotic, horrifying, and at moments amusing, the whole thing was.

TLDR: Yes, she was deployed to Iraq and flying a mission. To clarify, she did not have an accident. The helicopter was hit by an RPG. She basically took it right in the lap. Her copilot managed to land and the second helicopter on the mission with them landed to pick up the copilot, crew, and what they assumed was her body since they thought she was dead. Once they were in the second helicopter, her door gunner realized she was still alive and they called for a medivac for her and the other injured to meet them once they reached the base in the second helicopter. I have never heard that she grabbed a rifle and returned fire after being injured, nor is there anything in the video or article about that.

According to action reports, she grabbed a rifle and returned fire as the medivac took off.
