Deja Taylor was convicted on the relatively rare charge of owning a gun while being a cannabis user.

Nothing happens for storing your gun in a dumb enough way that a 6 y.o. can get their hands on it and bring it to school…

Did you not read the article?

The mother of a six-year-old boy who shot his teacher in the US state of Virginia has been sentenced to 21 months in prison on a drug charge linked to the gun used in the attack.

Deja Taylor, 26, pleaded guilty in June to using cannabis while owning a firearm. She still faces sentencing on a state charge of felony child neglect.

      • I mean yea I did… and she’s currently only sentenced because there happened to be 1oz of weed there, which is bullshit.

I know they’re not done with the other charges.
I just think the bigger issue is neglectful and unsafe storage, regardless of the weed or the kid.

What’s weird to me is she would have been fine if she didn’t have the weed and the kid, even if she still stored her gun in a smoothbrain way.

She already pled guilty to felony child endangerment. I do not understand what you find significant about the fact that she has not yet been sentenced for that crime.

Why did they even bother with the weed one when child endangerment was the actual issue?

Because ‘drugs r bad’ is a priority over child welfare.

And while at it, drunk people seem a lot more aggressive than stoned ones. If they make weed and guns a problem, let’s add alcohol as well.

The child, now aged seven, told police he obtained the firearm by mounting a drawer to reach his mom’s handbag on top of a dresser, where the handgun was kept.

Dipshit. I’m assuming VA doesn’t have any law about securing firearms. This is why we need them. You’d think it would be common sense, but I guess not.
