Well, the idea is to challenge yourself in some way. It’s not going to be much fun, if you just keep using your every day machine.
Some people without actual old machines throttle down their CPUs, disable cores, or limit RAM.
Others limit/allocate their time spent on a computer/internet a day.
I’m doing no xorg on a T42.

I could have bought a nice M1 or M2 but instead I modded an X230 and T430 up instead!
Same, but with a x220. Repasted, new ram, new battery, libreboot and Guix System. We are flying!
Nice I never opted for FHD mod but I did quad-core my X230, using another X230 now dual core i5 but it’s still pretty fast for most things on Alpine Linux :)

I have newer machines at my desk, i have a desktop with 12 cores waiting for a command yet when it is time for computing it is the job of x201.
I love my x201.Hmmm. I have an old 2012 HP netbook running a first generation C-series AMD APU (think it’s the Brazos platform) kicking around somewhere. Could be fun (or horrible!) to try and daily driver that.
