Wait, what? We’re talking about Reddit trying to force you to use their app instead of a browser. That’s on mobile. Are you saying your experience on a desktop is that Reddit is telling you to use their app instead of the browser, on the desktop?
Also, you have to be a madman to even try regular Reddit instead of old.reddit on the desktop.
Do they have a native Linux app or are they saying you should switch devices? If they’re telling you to switch to the phone that would be the first time I’ve ever seen that ever, it’s absolutely ridiculous and they can go fuck themselves lol.
Those who use old reddit to get around it wouldn’t likely get the app anyway
Hard disagree.
why even try blocking it?
The same reason new Reddit exists. The same reason they blocked third party apps from using their API; To increase engagement and serve you more ads more effectively.
How so? It already takes knowledge and effort, what would another hoop change?

If you absolutely have to read something from reddit and it throws this, just switch to the desktop site instead of mobile.
Desktop doesn’t work anymore, gotta use old.reddit now.
I don’t know what you’re using but request desktop version in Firefox on Android works fine. Tried it just now.
Literally firefox, on my desktop.
lol not literal desktop, the “Request Desktop Site” on phone browsers
Which I assumed was the same experience as “desktop mode” on mobile, since that’s what it is supposed to be.

Yes, on Firefox on endeavorOS I get a prompt to switch to the app visiting subreddits like this.
And i don’t use regular reddit, I just don’t use reddit often enough to install a redirect plugin.

Hilarious how their logic completely breaks down when doing that, and they don’t even care if you know.
They want you to download the app so they can collect your data and push ads that can’t be blocked with browser extensions.
And the old.reddit site I believe
Frankly I am astonished that this still works.

If the gains outweigh the cost.
