Tbh without some major technological breakthroughs, battery EVs don’t really seem like the way forward. They definitely have their place, but they’re looking to be a shitty basket to place all our eggs in.
They’d need considerable charging infrastructure to function as a replacement for gasoline vehicles.
American gas stations are convenience stores.
American charging stations are often just a pocket of parking spots in a lot of what is usually a big box store.
The infrastructure just isn’t there as available for public use for the pivot to ever be successful. There is no market for building that infrastructure as it isn’t inherently profitable until after EVs are the standard.
So it is either hoping for incredible technological breakthroughs enabling currently impossible energy for transportation.
Or public investment into infrastructure to serve a specific goal of enabling an EV market. Or just transportation that isn’t gas vehicle centric.
personally, i lean in the same direction toyota does: electric vehicles are going to be part of the future, but likely not to the extent gas cars are the present due to the significant resource and infrastructure needs that battery electric cars carry.

Quite the conundrum.
