I thought I’d share this story. I don’t know why.

    spoiler

My husband drank a lot of coca cola over the years. He loved the sound of a new bottle opening and would slug it down. He was also slightly overweight and had high blood pressure which he was taking medication for. No doubt he was heading for diabetes.

An off hand comment by me “you’d lose weight if you stopped drinking coke and curb the consumption of 2 icecreams a night” made him think.

He gave up the coke. He ate less icecream and as a result he lost 20kg in a matter of months. He did nothing else differently. It was so dramatic that people were asking him if he was ok. His medication was reduced, he gained abs and he could see his balls for the first time in a long time. His watch told him he has the fitness of a 20 year old. He’s 50 next year. He feels great.

The thing is he replaced the coke addiction with a diet cordial addiction. No sugar he declares. I happen to read the back of the bottle and there’s nothing in the nutritional panel but the ingredients were things I’ve never even heard of. I point this out to him. He says he has 5 bottles to get rid of. I told him he doesn’t have to get rid of them straight away. Have it when you feel like it.

He is now looking at everything. “Why does my chips have sugar in them? Im not get these again”.

The point is, its ok to have these things occasionally but if you wanna look and feel better have a look at things you mindlessly eat.

I’ve had the same problem so to speak.

I switched up my diet inadvertently and also cut out a lot of sugary drinks and stuff and I’ve accidently lost weight because of that.

What’s not so nice is that people think I’ve lost weight and there’s a problem because of it.

I had to talk to someone the other day and explain that I am actually eating well and stuff and because of inflation and a few choices to not buy certain things any more it’s led to my accidental weight loss.

I don’t like having to discuss my weight at all and I also don’t really pay attention to it but it bothers me and I made it known.

No one likes to talk face to face about their weight but dramatic weightloss makes people concerned that maybe cancer is involved.

It is good that you made it known that you are ok and don’t want to discuss it any further.

I only told one person but there was quite a bit of a long explanation which I don’t really care to go over too many times. Just that they keep bugging me about my stress levels and linked my supposed weight loss with it.

ugh, on a related note I’m dreading some weight comments at the work christmas part (slapped on a few)

I’ve decided to eat commenters. It’s fucking unwarranted commentary, and anyway, menopause is absolutely descending on me like the wrath of god so fuckem. 'tis the season of jolly fat people, not miserable skinny cunts

Good on him. I cut the soft drinks many years ago when I started looking after my health, they’re full of sugar and empty calories. I never crave soft drink anymore. Turned to diet drinks initially when making the switch, and then eventually you can cut those as well. The awful artificial chemical taste of most of them gets old quick. These days I go for ice tea if I want a sweet drink, but water does me fine.

soda stream knock off was a HUGE game changer for me. Bit of lime juice and in the early days a touch of sugar was just as nice.

Aye now I treat soft drinks like alcohol and if I need a sugar boost. For fun and for social situations when I want something to sip. Small change, huge difference.

I watched the Sugar Film with my husband. He knows I am using meal replacement and should have lactose free food

for the first two days he was all about looking at labels

then he bought more sweetened flavoured fruit yoghurt, lactose free this time

and he won’t give up his sugary muesli and other snacks

I can understand it’s hard to give up food yourself

but to buy lactose free fruit yoghurt when every other time he buys yoghurt just for himself ( because I won’t buy it ) is just too much 🤨 I haven’t touched it

That’s the one I eat. Not a fan of today’s fruit yogurt. Aldi have a Greek yogurt for $6 a big tub and it’s made by Jalna because it’s in the same tub as theirs.

      Oh wow, good on him

I never really got into sugary soft/energy drinks. I am quite fond of sugar free study drinks though. I can’t stand coke zero, too chemical-y. But I enjoy a can of Pepsi max with my dinner most nights
