I wish WB would realize DC has more ip outside of Batman.
Superman, Supergirl, Green Lanterns, Authority, Swamp Thing, Booster Gold, and some other stuff is all being worked on.
Outside of the Authority, all have been adapted in live action before, but I’m hopeful for the future with James Gunn. I really just want to get a Static movie franchise, but I’ll settle for just more super man stuff, and less shows about Batman’s cousin in law.
Though there are other DC characters being worked on, as @TachyonTele@lemm.ee mentioned, the number of poorly received Batman-adjacent projects in past 5 years is astounding:
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game
- Gotham Knights video game
- Gotham Knights series
- Titans series (the first two seasons were heavily marketed as being Batman-adjacent. I stopped watching after the second season, so I am not sure about the rest.)
- Joker: Folie à Deux movie
- The Flash movie (same as Titans, marketed heavily as being Batman-adjacent)
- A couple of forgettable animation movies like the super-pets one.
The only good Batman-adjacent project in recent times which I can recall is The Penguin.
Is this an Elseworld movie?
If so, I would not be interested in it since I found the last two Elseworld movies about a Batman villain to be terrible.
Joker and it’s sequel were not made under James Gunns tenure. Superman will be the first Gunn DC movie. (Other than Suicide Squad. But idk if thats going to count.)
Gunn has said multiple times he likes DC because you can do almost anything with the characters. He wants to build a shared universe, and do elseworld stories.
Based on the article it looks like it might be set in the Matt Reeves Batman universe (Robert Pattinson). Of course it will take some time to write so it could end up anywhere.
It could be a solo project, it could be Matt Reeves universe, it could be James Gunn universe.
