Jesus wasn’t liberal… he was socialist. Just saying, I don’t think he’d be down with the evils of capitalism.

“Now”? Have you seen the kinds of Christianity that’s been going on for the last millennia?

Pretty sad. I’d imagine there’d be a lot less strife in this country of people claiming to be Christian actually…ya know…followed the teachings of Christ? I’m not a Christian but I’ll admit his teachings were pretty solid as far as how to live your life. It’s the misinterpretations and deliberate bastardization of the Bible for power and personal gain that plagues American Christianity

It’s sad how they have bastardized and molded his teachings to fit their own world views.

I’m the only person in my family that is a liberal. I’m also the only one who isn’t religious. With everyone together for Thanksgiving, I’m saddened by all the racist, transphobic, and homophobic comments I’ve heard this week.

I’m not much for christianity myself, but I feel like there probably aught to be a mod for this space. Aren’t we trying to grow our communities? What is a christian going to think if they see all this in a “christianity” community?

Yeah that’s what I’m talking about. I doubt very much the christians who would otherwise be occupying this space would agree with that characterization.

(Previously in this post I used personal attacks against this person to protest the fact that I was being downvoted for what I think is the right thing. I regretted that mistake and made this edit instead.)

The article doesn’t call them or as individuals - it (seemingly accurately) calls out a broad trend, so if this doesn’t apply to them, there should be no reason for them to be upset.

Is there a reason I should care that members of a conservative hate group or people that wish to run from observations about the group that they identify with feel unwelcome and unrepresented?

I was very clear about hateful atheists brigading a christian space being the thing I was upset about. You were very clear about not giving a fuck and insisting it was your right to be hateful. How could you possibly be confused?

An article reporting the divide between contemporary American Christian values and Jesus’ values isn’t hate speech, my guy. I don’t think I’m the confused one.

If you’re offended by the article, do a better job of getting with Jesus, or own your dismissal of his teachings.

My opinion that hateful atheists shouldn’t be the only participants in a christian sub is shit. My opinion that we should be welcoming to new communities instead of preemptively shutting them down on the basis of personal bias is shit. How would you feel if you wanted to participate in discussions about neopets, but when you checked the community it was just two posts, both of which were shitting on neopets itself and people who play neopets?

We were talking at coffee hour the other week that we should bring back the collessium and make Christianity illegal again. How else will we enter the Kingdom?
