After reviewing the recent price changes (source: https://lemmy.world/post/389347), I’ve started thinking of the threshold at which it would no longer make sense for me, personally, to use points for Game Pass.
I should note that I’m in italy, so the following analysis might not be applicable to everyone. Additionally, I won’t be considering the value of Game Pass in terms of its library of “free” games, as I’m focusing solely on the Microsoft Rewards aspect. With that said, here’s my assessment, although I hope I’m overlooking something.
Monthly Game Pass Points
Daily Quests
- Earn an Achievement in Game Pass: +50
- Play Game Pass: +3
Daily total: +53
Weekly Quests
- Complete 3 Daily Quests: +10
- Earn Your Way: +10
- Other Weekly Quests: +255 (assuming Xbox ownership or availability on cloud gaming; let’s pretend this is always the case)
Weekly total: +275
Monthly Quests
- Game Pass Explorer: +10
- Quest Beginner: +25
- Quest Completionist: +500
- Quest Dedication: +100
Monthly total: +635
Grand total: 53 * 30 + 275 * 4 + 635 = +3325
in total, I earn 3325 points per month through Game Pass. Back in March, I redeemed 15000 points for three months of Xbox Live Gold, which I then converted into Game Pass Ultimate using a voucher for one free month. Essentially, I obtained four months of Xbox Live Gold for just 15000 points.
If we multiply 3325 by four, we arrive at 13300 points. That is, I’ve lost 1700 points.
Unless I’ve made an error in my calculations, it seems that Game Pass Ultimate is no longer worthwhile.
It’s also important to consider that the conversion from Xbox Live Gold to Game Pass Ultimate may stop working at some point. Currently, three months of Game Pass cost 35000 points, meaning I would then lose 21700 points.
What are your thoughts? Personally, if the number of points I accumulate through Game Pass does not increase (e.g., in italy, we don’t earn points in the Xbox app), I don’t believe I will renew my subscription.
