When people ask which my favourite series is I always Voyager because that was the first Star Trek series I watched from pilot to finale as it was airing on TV. So I have a lot more memories of Voyager and it’s high points like the Basics, Scorpion and Equinox cliffhangers.

But for pure story telling and acting DS9 is on another level to even TNG. Plus it has three absolutely fantastic episodes that aren’t just good Star Trek they are some of the best TV episodes of any show.

Obviously I’m talking about The Visitor, In the Pale Moonlight and Far Beyond the Stars which are Start Trek at its absolute best. The acting by Avery Brooks in all three of these is something else. Especially that moment in Far Beyond the Stars that is both mesmerising and difficult to watch in equal measure.

TNG has its trio of standout episodes too in Measure of a Man, The Offspring and Inner Light but DS9’s just hit harder.

Unfortunately Voyager has no episodes that truly excel on the same level.

However when I come to a Voyager rewatch soon I’m sure I’ll have the same feelings about that as I do right now about DS9.

Well this quickly became a Deep Space Nine appreciation post didn’t it? Oh well, DS9 rules.
