      It’s such a myth that Southgate doesn’t like calling up mid table players. Look how many Chelsea and Manchester United players are in the squad.

      Tbf until recently Lewis Dunk and Brighton could have filled those gaps. I think his performances have justified that reaction.

        If Man City signed Dunk and banished him to the reserves for a season, he’d be starting for England. The sad fact is that being associated with a “big 6” team is just far more valuable to Southgate.
