I’m fed up trying to talk about privacy to my friends! Every time I start to talk about privacy they go “Are you a terrorist!” , “What are you hiding?” , “Are you a pimp”. This has happened way so many times that I gave up trying to talk privacy entirely to my friends. But, privacy is one of my main interests, it’s kind of like my hobby. One of the few things that I like and am passionate about is privacy. Since I didn’t have a social group to talk about privacy I created one on Matrix! I created a Matrix space called “Intimadad Amigos” (means ‘privacy friends’ in Spanish- And, nope! Before anyone asks I’m not Spanish. I was looking for a name for the space and thought this one was cool). Here you can talk about all things privacy such as civil liberties, OpSec, Netsec, politics and philosophies involving privacy without exposing your real identity with like minded people. I’m pretty sure many would have faced this where they can’t freely discuss privacy without getting put down or getting nagged with unending questions about whether they are a terrorist. So I hope this space will be beneficial to you. Feel free to join and grab your like-minded friends along with you! Happy socializing!

I too observed the same after reading numerous comments and posts from EU residents in Reddit and the like. I think this has to do with strict Data privacy laws there and it’s propagated in various forms of media so even the average consumer knows about it.
I think for this to happen stricter data privacy laws should be adapted by countries and should be advertised so hard that even your grandma knows about it. This is the only way we can normalise conversations about privacy.
