How much taxpayer money is going to be wasted to bring this idiot home?

How many more useful things could the state department be doing if they didn’t have to bargain with NK to release this fool?

Not even getting into that this guy was facing charges back home for assaulting a South Korean civilian.

He probably doesn’t want to come back and NK probably is happy to have him. He was facing assault charges and he can probably live an ok life as a propaganda piece for NK.

This kid stole a poster from his hotel room in North Korea. He was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with hard labor. They beat him into a coma, and he was released by North Korea in a vegetative state before dying soon afterwards.

That soldier is going to mouth off to someone and get the same treatment.

I don’t think these 2 things are the same. They have a US soldier that voluntarily went to North Korea. Think of how much publicity they can get for that. As long as he follows the rules he will likely be set up nicely

This particular soldier somehow lost out on the automatic promotion to Private First Class after 1 year’s service, then assaulted a civilian, then fled from his discharge hearing.

He’s not very good at following the rules.

The last american to defect to North Korea lived there his whole life and died in 2016… It is possible he will be able to live a normal life there if he is not stupid that is.

But then again defecting was maybe the stupidest thing he could have done.
