Sup fellas.
I’m a Spanish guy who, for the past decade, has been getting increasingly radicalized. I’ve been mostly so far interested in reading because I wanted to have a solid theoretical background and learn more about the Ws and Ls of communism, from a theoretical and a historical perspective, and while I’m still very much into reading socialist literature, I want to take the step to organizing and activism locally. I was just wondering if anyone here has any resources for any Communist/Socialist/Marxist organisation in Spain or with presence in multiple western-european countries that anyone can recommend me to contact.
Thanks a bunch!
Welcome to this lonely club, comrade. The presence of socialists/communists depends a lot on your location, mostly in big urban areas like Madrid or Barcelona. Since their scope is almost always local, you’re gonna have to find out by yourself (yeah I’m not being helpful at all here 🫠), through social media (twitter, insta) or IRL, like going to protests. In big cities, I’ve seen some housing unions, mutual aid, and BDS branches. If you’re a student you can maybe look for the student union. Don’t expect any revolutionaries. There’s also Movimiento Socialista, which are trots iirc. Lastly, with regards to parties, I wouldn’t join the PCE. Maybe the PCPE or PCTE, but they’re completely irrevelant and I haven’t heard a single thing they’ve done other than going to protests, making statements and having very niche podcast/radio shows.
Not technically a student but I guess it’s not a bad place to start, thank you! So far I’ve heard of the organization “Pan y Rosas” (bread and roses), a communist organization with a focus on feminism; and “Izquierda Revolucionaria” (revolutionary left), but they don’t seem to be that active sadly, especially the latter, but the Sindicato de Estudiantes seems to be a good place to start with. Yeah, I know about the PCE being basically co-opted at this point, and the PCPE being mostly irrelevant, but they’re both political parties and I’m not looking necessarily for an organization that believes change can be attained through progressive reformism (it’s kinda anti-revolutionary imo). But your input is very welcome, thank you a lot for your comment! Best of luck!
If there aren’t any Marxist organizations in your area, then be the first person to make one. That’s how all Marxist groups are made, by people who got tired of there not being and Marxist organizations near them, so they just decided to make one themselves.
Sure, that’s not a concern of mine, I just wanna be sure there are things around before I start “reinventing the wheel”, precisely one of the problems of the radical left is the fragmentation.
Additionally, not having belonged to any association or organization, I’m absolutely lacking in organizational skills and mechanisms, and it’s something important to learn to make a good community.
