  • I know a surprising number of immigrants of various flavors, who are proud of overcoming all the obstacles to build a better, successful life for themselves and their families. They object to other immigrants “getting special favors”, “not following the rules”, “getting it easy”. Some of it is justified pride in their accomplishments but I can’t help but believe they are misinformed about attempted reforms, just like many other conservatives

  • I don’t understand articles like this. I’ve never been in a place where it’s taken more than say 20 minutes to vote. The longest line was still within the air conditioned school that was my polling place. The only difficulty is spending that time staring at and smelling the bake sale to raise additional funds for the school

workers called it amazing to see so many people exercising their right to vote

That’s great, but why aren’t they offended that their government made this such a hardship? Why isn’t the FEC forcing remediation including more investment if necessary? Why isn’t whoever made choices resulting in this line fired?

How is that a four hour line is not clear evidence of interfering with an election, and get immediately addressed?

Maybe but those $10 bags are so expensive that you’ll never be able to use them enough to be worth it. At least with a 10¢ plastic bag I’m invented to reuse it plus only a few uses is already better for the environment (they are a lot thicker than the older disposable plastic bags but I don’t know how to quantify that)

  • Yeah, I do that because it was difficult to get into the habit of bringing bags with me. Now I probably have over 109 10¢ plastic bags

But I do reuse them. I’m getting good at remembering to bring them and haven’t had to buy more in months. However sometimes it seems like I’m the only one. I’ve had cashiers be confused about them so it probably really is rare.

My biggest concern is portability - I can fold up these plastic bags and carry a few in pretty much any pocket, but how would I carry cloth bags? Do I need to invest in cargo pants just so I can use reusable grocery bags?

  • But is it effective , or work?

I understand heat pumps are really good now and do function at colder temperatures than we usually see, which is fantastic. However they get much less efficient as the temperature difference get bigger, meaning you’d have to size the appliance much bigger.

When I looked into this, in New England, HVAC companies were consistently telling me they’d work but not that effectively, and insist led on a new gas furnace as backup heat, as the cheaper option over sizing the heat pump enough to effectively keep the house comfortable
