Your phone needs to be carrier unlocked and you need a proper computer - laptop or desktop.

I tried to flash GOS with the web installer using a chromebook, android tablet and my previous phone and it kept failing.

GOS claims many different devices can work as a host but none worked for me.

I had to go buy a windows laptop. I hate windows with a blood-boiling passion.

Once I had the laptop, flashing GOS was butter smooth.

I spent the next 7 days trying to like the windows laptop but ended up returning it for a refund.

USB-C thumbdrive (great for large files) and/or Syncthing (better for a lot of small files) are options for getting files onto a device without a SD card.

For searches I use an app from F-Droid called “GMaps WV”. This accesses GMaps website without an account and requires a network connection. All the details of a business is here - phone, address, url, reviews, hours of operation. No routing though.

I seldom need directions to get somewhere but OsmAnd+, also from F-Droid, does the trick for me. I make sure to download a map for offline use.

If you live where winter tires are necessary get a set of tires mounted on a second set of rims. This saves money in the long run by changing them yourself (if physically able). I also upgraded to a better jack, a couple of chocks, axle stands, and a torque wrench. Where I live it’s first come, first serve to get the tires changed. Takes me about an hour while people are lined up for 2 or 3 at a garage.

I use a few techniques from a practice called “Hypermiling”. I don’t accelerate fast. Coast on the downhills (modern cars shut off the fuel-injectors when travelling at speed). When I see a red light up ahead I start slowing down, if I time it right the light will turn green before I get there. Keep the tires inflated. The more weight in a vehicle, the lower your fuel economy.

Never owned a rice cooker. A pot and lid works just fine.
