If your point is that it’s fine for a company to get their stuff out there in a timely fashion, that company just sucks balls in my opinion.

1. Not auto updating
2. Checking if it is an LTS

I call that way of not updating “annoying” and insecure IMO.

Other vendors don’t have this issue.

My conclusion: steer clear of Nvidia.

Well, every kernel update is overstated maybe, but I had my fixed workflow of dropping to text mode and reinstalling the latest drivers from vendor, which is annoying as hell.

Dropped the card after meddling about for almost a year. Been using Linux since slackware was still hip & happening.

I’ll interpret this as “it worked for you”. It did not work for me.

My experience with Nvidia (granted, 3 years old experience):

Going with the closed source driver means stuff breaking each kernel update. Going with the opensource driver (while it may work for you): not everything is supported.

So its not just “people being annoyed with Nvidia” i’d say.

The “star construct” you mention and hang an entire theory on is just a German language construct. It has to do with gender but not the way you imagine it to be. Just gender as a language construct (German is full of gender constructs).

Maybe I made the error of explaining your post with the typical US “there is only one gender” stance which is so irritatingly omni present on youtube nowadays.

Look up your inverter brand and pray there is an integration for it. Also: try to make your electrical meter smart to be able to tell the difference between pulling from grid and delivering to grid. If you already have a smart meter, see if it exposes some interface (like P1 with the DSMR protocol for example) to easily integrate the meter into home assistant.

I have done all this with a goodwe inverter and a kamstrup meter P1 port using a DSMR dongle.
