Many people self medicate with caffeine. It helps with focus and productivity, which is why coffee is incredibly popular. Its not just for the neurodivergent, it helps most people focus, making it a staple of workplaces worldwide.

I have only ever heard people with ADHD describe coffee as calming, but it helps with focus. The problem for those with ADHD is that the mind is too active, so being more calm helps focus.

If coffee helps you do the things you want or need to do, you should use it. Avoid excess, proper dosage is essential for any drug even ones as benign as caffeine.

  • Get an old color laser printer, that is not aimed at the home market. Get whatever boring printer box your local library has. Toner stores very well, and it takes almost a decade for a normal person to print an office sized amount of toner.

To do that you will need a separate scanner. Most desktop printer/scanners are aimed at home users where they do much more of the, “cannot scan low magenta.”

  • For me the trap is the hours worked. I’m not at work long enough to be eligible for most federal programs, but if I found an employee who offered 40 hours of work per week at my rate, I would be above the income thresholds.

Means testing is the most expensive way of doing the least good. It also means they can exclude people who don’t know about the program. An income check requires specific approval to access IRS data. Without means testing they can just mail a check to the people who need it. With means testing, the feds pay for billboards to tell people about the form they could fill out in order to be denied help on a technicality.
