I got the heat pump and all pipework/radiators replaced, the government paid for a bit over half of the total cost as they give you £7.5k now toward replacing a boiler with a heat pump. Plus everything is VAT free as part of the install, so it was pretty much no more expensive than doing the same thing with a gas boiler. The pipework kinda needed replacing anyway, it was shit. Putting more efficient radiators on is a fairly small job when you are having all the pipework replaced already.

Got it done before moving into the house when we bought it, if you already live there I could see it being quite disruptive.

Got a heat pump so now long showers use much less energy.

Now makes me wonder what the COP is during the summer, if you time the shower so that the heat pump works during the hot part of the day it should be pretty high. 30°c outside, barely needs to work to heat the water.

Surely you would learn to cook your own food if you are a cheapskate? It’s so much cheaper making your own, I had to through necessity for a long time. While I already knew a few recipes I generally couldn’t afford them when I moved out. Beef mince? Hah! Not a chance.

Turns out making your own sourdough pizza from scratch is crazy cheap. Cheese is the most expensive part.

Unbeatable in value… Ehh, really depends what you want to do with it. I don’t care about consoles so I will just disregard them entirely, they don’t run a normal Linux distro.

Steamdeck is great, sure. But if you were looking for low spec desktop gaming you could look at some low spec mini PCs for about half the cost of the steamdeck. You would be able to run a vast amount of games on it just fine. Old hardware might cost less used but will most likely end up costing more in power consumption.

The different use case is why I don’t even really care about consoles, I just don’t want one at all.

Just because you can spend £800 on a part doesn’t mean you have to… I just want to.

UK here, not perfect but we did have quite a few paths that either don’t allow cars or don’t have many so cycling around was pretty easy. Cars make people lazy. Many people I know will drive to avoid an 800m walk.

Yeah. Same game, reskinned cards and sold at a much higher price and can’t really play anything else with them. Then over time they add other gimmicks like some ewaste that throws cards on the floor for you and makes the game cost 30 times as much as a pack of cards.

Could get longer ranges like that with a battery pack that can be disconnected and swapped, or connect multiple on the bike and switch the cable over when one is low.

Actually seen an electric motorcycle built like that, it can carry 2 batteries if you want a second one but it uses most of your internal storage space.

Or announce the law before it comes into effect, you have a certain amount of time to make your bike compliant, replace it or stop using it. Assuming you don’t already have laws for it. UK already does and just doesn’t really enforce them much.
