I know and use Linux as a desktop. I constantly switch back to Windows because Linux flaws aren’t worth my time. It’s not about clueless consumers. It’s about not dealing with an os that actively makes it harder to use your computer than the competition.

How about, no. I want my computer to work for me. I don’t want to work for my computer. This is why the majority of programmers out there, people who clearly can use the command line, use Windows.

As desktop environments, less companies use Linux. That’s the context we are already talking about. We aren’t talking about random servers or random devices.

What controllers are you using that don’t work on Windows? One of the most commonly used PC controllers are Xbox controllers and they work amazingly on Windows. On Linux they suck and have constant issues. For the cheapest options something like Logitech works better on Windows and typically just use the same API as the Xbox controllers.

Yup, I think the core design philosophy is the fault and thus the janky always behind the times Linux os will never be a leader. It’s because there is no driving force to make something coherent, well polished, and unique in a productive way. When your design philosophy is everyone design and implement by committee nothing will feel like it has a goal.

Yeah that’s where windows shines is devices. Windows supports more random devices than Linux. Linux might have the most drivers for devices but they are half baked most of the time and with windows you know that’s the supported and tested platform for it. Linux needs serious buy in from vendors before it becomes big and the only way to get that is a large audience. It’s a catch 22 that Linux folks won’t admit it exists.

Realistically our military protects the world against going anti American. We keep every nation in the world wrapped into our economy except for those we specifically kicked out like Cuba. It’s why even nations like Russia and China are so tightly wrapped in our economy that sanctions hurt them. America is the protectors of the world, by force.

Anything on Windows is much easier than on Linux which is why most companies and people prefer operating systems that consider user experience over Linux distros.

Yeah you aren’t doing bedrock on Linux. 8 have insights into industry standards and teaching kids. Also just because it “works fine on Linux” doesn’t mean it works best on Linux.

Don’t do anything Linux or FOSS to start. Get him into Minecraft, Roblox, and fortnite. All run best on Windows and all have major modding tools that get you results immediately.

Ignore anyone telling you to use Linux or FOSS tools that don’t have an industry standard grip. blender and obs are fine but if someone is suggesting vim or emacs over visual studio code or notepad, they don’t understand kids or ease of use. Overall windows is where you want to be. Maybe specifically windows 10.

Overall I’d aim for games and game development with game maker or something more simple like osmo. This will show practical creative use cases for complex math. It will get them interested in files and formats. Hell, I’d throw them some indie games that don’t pack their files so he can just replace them and get interesting results.

Windows, Mac, Freebsd, etc all use some sort of modular kernel. Linux finally going to a microkernel or even a hybrid kernel would be one of the first basic steps towards modernizing Linux. So it will probably happen in 10 years or so.

It really just depends on the genre. Platformers usually have one set difficulty. As does games like Castle Crashers. A few rogue likes offer difficulty settings but they typically range from very difficult to impossible without options for easy.

That said games like the lion king were interesting because their difficulty is typically so high because designers back then were designing for the arcade, even with home release only games. It’s a mindset the industry was in.

Honestly that’s okay. That’s how most of the games industry works and you know what? I sleep very well knowing that none of my code is actively hurting people. I do likely have some code in some defense simulator from my work on squad but so be it. Overall I make toys. Works of art and as long as the bugs are caught it really doesn’t matter when. As long as it’s before release. Even then you can just work at Bethesda and just never fix them no matter what.
