Hamlin pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty brought against him and four of his fraternity brothers in 1980, when he was an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. The charge was brought against Hamlin under a local Ann Arbor ordinance. All five members of Alpha Delta Phi were later expelled from the fraternity.
The details of the case, described in local media reports at the time, are gruesome. The house cat was captured, its paws were cut off, and was then strung up and set on fire. The killing, which occurred in December 1979, was allegedly prompted by anger that the cat was not using its litterbox.
This is all you need to know about the average gun nut piece of shit that stands in the way of meaningful change to address this country’s unique problem with daily mass shootings. Violence and cruelty are not an issue to them. They’re features.

The thing about this is that I just made that up, no source, nothing to verify and given that the article identifies a person with full name and place, as well as their role and industry is likely to be uniquely identifiable and a prime candidate for being fired…
… unless the story was made up or the intent is to assassinate either the company or the person.
Ask yourself, who is the intended audience, what does the author of this article intend to achieve and will this article achieve that?

0·2 months agoI had been using DDG for years but switched to SearXNG last fall after reading about it on Lemmy. It’s a privacy focused meta-search engine that can even be self-hosted. It’s wildly customizable and I’ve been pretty happy with the results.
If you’re not interested in self-hosting, or just want to test drive it a bit, there are lots of public instances you can use as well.

Those concentration camps weren’t built 43 years after the war by the descendants of Nazis to continue intimidating Jewish people, now were they? Do you see me claiming we should destroy civil war forts? The monument in question was erected in 1908 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a group which exists to this day and remains inextricably linked to the Ku Klux Klan. Let those traitors pay to store their garbage if they want to.
Put them in a huge warehouse for academics to study or something.
We don’t need to keep these statues to understand their racist purpose, nor to document their removal for the historical record.
