Oh man, the Scripps cams are making me want a beach vacation. It’s been too long since I’ve been to the ocean.

so you could watch traffic and brace for the ordeal before driving off to work.
I forgot about traffic cameras. My region’s highway department has webcams along the major mountain passes. This was good reminder; I will need to check them in a few weeks before I drive through the mountains!
You can turn on the TV and watch those ski resort webcams at like 5am or 6am on TV
This would actually be better than most of my local broadcast TV.
The Associated Press seems to have a decent results presentation ready to go:
https://apnews.com/projects/election-results-2024/
I wouldn’t bother watching minute-by-minute. There is a decent chance that some swing state will be close enough to trigger a recount, and/or one side files lawsuits challenging the results. This circus is far from over.
Sorry, that was a rude comment of mine.
I imagine this post would be better received if the account weren’t 2 hours old.
Making quiche for brunch. Apparently an omelet is fine, but a scrambled omelette is gay.
“What is Beehaw”: https://docs.beehaw.org/docs/core-principles/what-is-beehaw/
TL;DR: Beehaw.org is intentionally curated and moderated to try and maintain a “nice” environment free of aggression and trolling.
The influx of Reddit refugees last year was a bit of a shock to their system. The Beehaw admins have floated the idea of leaving Lemmy entirely.
It’s been a long time for me. My peak PC gaming days were spent playing Warcraft II head-to-head with a friend over a modem. That was on a Macintosh Performa 550. I also had a ton of fun playing Myst and Flashback. I stuck to consoles after that.
Now the only gaming in my house is my kids playing Minecraft on a Dell OptiPlex 5040 that I saved from the dumpster at work because I’m a cheapskate. No dedicated GPU, 8GB RAM, but it gets the job done.
Oof, what a roller coaster. I wish the best for all of you.
Apparently it’s in the ballpark of 6 weeks and $100,000. I hope someday I’m in a position to be concerned about the cost and time to have my plane painted.

Japanese fighter jet art FTW.
I wish I had a solid source on this. The best I can find is a 6-year-old Reddit comment:
This particular jump with the BT-7 cavalry tank was performed by a tank test pilot Evgeniy Kulchitsky, he mentions in his memoirs that it was a very challenging test to perform (15m height, 42m length of the jump), requiring challenging practice and long preparation. You had to adjust the rotational speed of the tracks mid-air to not outright lose them, assume a (relatively) safe position and then continue to pilot the tank after landing to get it to the shore.
The reason for this testing was to make sure that similar jumps were a viable tactical option (fording rivers at speed, for example) and that both the crew and the tank could manage it and remain effective.
Boo. The babylon bee is MAGA pandering trying to pass as humor.
At one time they had open registrations, so spammers were taking advantage and setting up shop there. It looks like the instance now has a sign-up application. I have unblocked them. Thanks for noticing!
This is a good opportunity to remind users about our Fediseer profile: https://gui.fediseer.com/instances/detail/sh.itjust.works
We try to keep our Censures list on Fediseer up to date with the sh.itjust.works instance blocklist. That way we can leave notes in Fediseer explaining why each instance is blocked.
Users’ aggregate post and comment score has been entirely removed from the Lemmy API (as of version 0.19.0 if I remember correctly). It is not easily accessible to anyone, including admins. You could write a script to sum a user’s aggregate score.
I hear some of the old exploding-heads crew is back as hilariouschaos.com
He’s protected by all that Freedom!
That’s a great idea! I’ll have to bookmark this for later.
