That was the final straw for me, I switched over to waterfox for nominally more privacy.

We can’t have anything nice
I say this to be fair, since I’ve used Debian since almost the very beginning: Debian is a bit more complicated to set up.
I generally find when people ask me for help, they’re either on Ubuntu or on Fedora (in which case I direct them to someone else for help). Sometimes they’re gamers or using something where Debian + tweaks is ideal, but often I just help them configure Debian, or just help them get their Ubuntu where they want it.
I don’t know, this was for a system on kubuntu 24.04, the latest up there. I removed it, replaced it with debian and kde - my friend isn’t a gamer, doesn’t require anything bleeding edge, so that was just a better choice in our opinion.
Only tangentially related - but a friend brought over a new kubuntu install and Canonical had the cheek to demand money for VLC patches? They don’t fing own VLC. What the actual f is going on over there, Canonical?
I just recently de-snapped yet another ubuntu system. Couldn’t agree more. I use debian standard for all of my stuff, and I agree with your ranking.

miguel@fedia.ioto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Why the Steam Deck still obliterates the Switch 2 (a response to Nintendo Life)4·6 days agoOfc not, I’m asking why they didn’t just release a collection like Sega did, or like Nintendo has done in the past.
Releasing a “classics” collection in the first few months of the switch would have been such an easy move.Though, contextually (and more importantly), pointing out that the switch 2 doesn’t just have to compete against a similar device with a mammoth array of games… but one with all of nintendo’s games, too.
miguel@fedia.ioto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Why the Steam Deck still obliterates the Switch 2 (a response to Nintendo Life)121·6 days agoIt varies from game to game, as you’d expect. I can play pokemon multi-player without requiring a link cable, for example, but I can’t speak to other games I haven’t played much (like smash brothers or mariokart). If you mean games in general on the steamdeck, I find gog games and randos like Doom and Diablo multiplayer works just fine.

miguel@fedia.ioto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Why the Steam Deck still obliterates the Switch 2 (a response to Nintendo Life)444·6 days agoYou very politely missed the #1 point… I can already play every single nintendo game I’ve ever bought on my steamdeck. Right now. With no subscription, just simply uploading from my GBA/DS/3DS/Switch to my Steamdeck… Nintendo for reasons completely lost to me refuses to allow that. Like, wth are they even doing over there to not have solved that issue day 1 on the switch.

miguel@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something people use the internet for that can be done just as easily offline?22·6 days agoFinding books. I have no idea why I do that, when there’s a bookstore I really enjoy right across the lot from me, but i’ll literally browse book reviews for 30 mins before wandering over there and just… buying whatever looks good.
Total waste of time, I didn’t value the opinions of the reviewers in the first place, and the process is always inconclusive.

So, no? I’m from the US, I don’t really get a choice in ISP, phone network, or political representative, but boy I sure do get to pick from a number of different cereals.I am more active at the very local level, though, which seems to be the only place an individual can have impact.

The best summary I ever saw of them was: GOP: “fascism” DNC: “fascism ✨🏳️🌈”
I find there’s a lot of reddit here (good and bad), but the vinyl and CD communities are probably nicer (if less busy). The rest, well, vary :D
miguel@fedia.ioto Fediverse@lemmy.world•The Social Network That Can't Sell Out: Understanding Mastodon vs. Bluesky92·13 days agoWhat “kickstart”? The fediverse isn’t a commercial venture. If we can connect with our friends and interests, it’s already “working”. I find fantastic new people here all the time, doing really niche stuff I’d never find on a platform focused on appealing to everyone.
If “99%” of people aren’t on it, that’s perfectly acceptable, and just makes it easier for the ones on it to find and talk to their friends. I don’t think we need or want the vast torrent of spammers, downvote bots, and “influencer” types who use whatever gives them clicks.
While I, too, don’t have a feeling of “missing out” on EA games, I also don’t understand their logic. How does this make “line go up”?
