I am also doubtful that hidden pleasure at seeing other suffer is the prime motivator.
More likely they are of the mistaken believe that punishment can prevent future crimes and the stronger the punishment the better for that. But while this might be true for minor stuff like petty theft, this believe is generally not supported by evidence.
How dare you taking away jobs from the people that put your groceries in plastic bags at Walmart /s
Very little and canopies that shouldn’t accidentally damage cars or people under them need to be regularly checked too.
I don’t know why you are so hell bend to defend what is obviously a stupid decision, especially since you don’t know the exact situation nearly as well as I do.
Na, these ones are super strong and probably cost more than a solar panel installation would have, especially if you factor in the electricity it produces over time. It’s just silly and was probably decided for by some boomer who drives an SUV.
I am quite furious at a local supermarket installing sun-shades over their parkinglot and it is not solar panels but rather a really stupid looking permanent tent structure that couldn’t even be retrofitted with solar-panels. This is so stupid that I decided to boycott them over this alone.
And the other context is that there are quite credible rumors of sabotage by Chinese equipment suppliers, making this takeover by a majority Chinese owned company more than a little suspicious.
But IMHO is was stupid by Northvolt to just try to import Chinese battery-tech, and I think the states that provided subsidies for that will have some very hard lessons learned from getting played like that.
I actually found the weeks around the Russians invasion in 2022 quite enlightening here on Lemmy. I must admit I previously felt like “Tankie” was a tired trope and despite some previous evidence to the contrary in regards to support of Assad, I thought they could be reasoned with.
But seeing them here on Lemmy in real-time turn from confused and maybe slightly scared right after the invasion (which they loudly proclaimed would never happen right before it did happen), towards renewed support of Putin’s regime clearly showed to me that they are so good at lying to themselves that they can never be trusted.
Have you consider using a note taking app with server sync instead of abusing a chat service for the same thing?
This is indeed interesting, but doesn’t fix the fundamental issue of banking etc. apps refusing to run on non-stock Android versions.
Thanks and done.
And doesn’t it seem foolish to oppose mass transit even from the selfish car driver standpoint?
City mass transit often comes with the idea to exclude cars from inner city areas, or at least slow them down and use street space for better purposes. Which is why car lobby associations usually oppose them.
Literal sightseeing in disaster zones is sadly a very common thing. Really hard to comprehend that some people think that is a good idea.
If the Solarpunk movement would depend on the success of a Disney movie, it would not be punk or worth supporting 🤷♂️
And anyone with an ounce of common sense has been saying so during all these 16 years.
It was shitty rags like the Economist that were praising her short sighted economic policies.
Looks like those previous DNS issues are a repeated “feature” now 😭
I am currently looking into some mitigations I can do, but if this now happens every 3 weeks I will need to talk to our ISP about finding another solution…
Hmm, that doesn’t sound like my issue. As soon as I turn on SteamVR the sound goes haywire. I can still use other headphones fine without any issue, but the built in ones have distorted sound with SteamVR running (but not when I turn that off).
No problems with the built in headphones? I can’t get them to sound right… there seems to be some sort of samplerate shift as soon as I start SteamVR with my HTC Vive Pro.
Ah, I was hoping to hear about experiences with the PSVR2 on Linux. Too bad it doesn’t fully work yet. But that it is only a problem with the app might mean Monado support is possible.
Yeah, Occulus and Linux are not the best friends. There are some work arounds to make it somewhat work with SteamVR, but don’t expect too much.
My recommendation would be to look for a second hand Valve Index or HTC Vive if using it on Linux is your priority.
Or wait for the rumored new standalone headset from Valve, but that will probably not happen before end of 2025 if at all.
Because you don’t need evidence to believe something? Especially if you don’t care to look for such evidence?
