With Trump the grift is usually that the people who buy in think they are funding his campagn whereas he uses much of the money for other stuff like his personal lawsuits for business fraud and the like.

I agree that active/reserve is a better way of saying it, and that’s the way I’ve always said it when working with these systems. Honestly I may have never heard master slave in actual use in 15 years of regularly describing such systems.

This is true. Warm standby is more or less obsolete in favor of n+1 load sharing.

I think for most cases you could use primary and standby for master slave replacements.

The thing is that master has a different connotation in IT than server does. Such as in master/slave pairs for fault tolerance.

The reason to nationalize something existing in these spheres rather than build something new is because the network effects of these platforms make it near impossible for something competing to get a foothold. And if anyone could fail to compete against big tech, no one could fail better than the government.

Best would be if they nationalized these systems and then migrated them to their FOSS alternatives over time.

Wouldn’t you not want to tell them you have one so that they keep wasting energy and manpower thinking it works?

I’m okay with this phrase except for the word “intent”. If we give someone the power to try to assess our intent, it can easily go the way of totalitarian states where they say you have a bad intent any time you criticize the government.

You should be punished for outcome, not intent. If you say something provably untrue that results in riots or murders, you should be held accountable for the outcomes of those statements. This is not that different from our current libel laws.
