I absolutely do think RCV should be used! Or at least runoff voting or SOMETHING other than FPTP. But the other commenter was suggesting that because I’m in favor of it, and because I pointed out the potential consequence of voting third party under FPTP, I must prove my allegiance (or something) by starting a movement. As if I can’t simply have an opinion without dedicating my life to it.

Cool. Am I supposed to do that for every cause I believe in or just the ones you say I should?

I see lots of problems in the world. Our voting system is flawed, income inequality is bananas, people still think Donald Trump won the election 4 years ago, our cities are very car-dependent, and plenty more. If I built a grassroots program for every issue I point out to every yahoo on the Internet, I wouldn’t have time to change my toddler’s diaper. If my posting online tells people to keep the cart behind the horse or reconsider their points of view (glad you seem to agree with me what the problem is!) I’ll call that a win on a smaller scale.

Cripes. My point was our current system means your vote for the perfect candidate can put the candidate you disagree with most into office when one with much closer views to yours could have been elected instead. It has happened, and in a place where it really shouldn’t have.

That system should be changed for that reason, and until it is you should be very aware of unintended consequences of that vote.

Regardless of outcome, you’re playing with fire in our current voting system. Even if a few states did actually elect a third party, you could see no candidate reach 270 electoral votes and then it goes to the even more arcane vote done in the house of representatives (which each state gets a vote)

A very blue district in Hawaii sent a Republican (Charles Djou) to Washington in a special election with less than half the vote, because the two Democrats in the race refused to back down. If there were a ranked choice or other voting system than “plurality takes all”, he wouldn’t have won

His sentencing is in a couple months. Jail is still on the table. Depending on the jurisdiction and type of crime, it’s not uncommon for sentencing to occur later on while the two sides organize their pitch for what’s appropriate. Plus probation offices and such can give their own assessments.

When did I say anything about a private room? You get a few feet of separation from your parents and a different adult to talk to for a moment. That may be enough of an opportunity.

Uh, that’s not exactly what happens when the metal detector goes off but it gives you an opportunity to talk with someone without your parents around. TSA isn’t police, but hopefully they can contact police.

That said, parents do get a pretty strong say in where they take their minor children.

The Bolt is ok. It has a screen and Android Auto and stuff, but I only use it for Android Auto navigation and energy stats when I’m curious. For pretty much everything else, there are good ol’ fashioned buttons.

I was just about to say something about how judges should never ever say something like “my prosecutors” until I realized: that guy is not the judge. He’s a district attorney (prosecutor). He’s generally supposed to advocate for guilt, tougher sentences, etc… Basically the opposite of the defense.

It’s up to the judge to decide what’s actually reasonable. This is not the judge speaking here.

I would imagine so. Most 25-29 year olds’ parents aren’t that old, plus you’d need a combination of “able to afford a house” and “parents need/want to move in with kid (and vice versa)”.

In the mid-60s on the graph, there’s a blurb that it’s 25-29 year olds living with their parents. Not super noticable at first glance.

Part of the problem comes when companies go out of their way to provide a service on their end that could be covered reasonably easily on the consumer’s side of things. Why put a few cents worth of storage in a device and make it locally accessible when you can make it cloud-connected and hosted to turn it into a revenue stream?

Another example, GM has had OnStar for ages. It does the same things your cell phone does, so it’s hard to justify the subscription. Plus Android Auto/Car Play works really well and relies on something you update more often. So naturally, GM revamped their infotainment to do the things you’d have your phone do and got rid of Android Auto/Car Play.

My one question with this is, what do you do for multi-unit apartments and such that aren’t condos? Yes, it’s corporate-owned. Yes, that has its own slime that needs to be cleaned up. But it’s also a reasonable way to increase housing density (meaning more housing and, if done correctly, less reliance on cars). Housing rentals do have their place in the world, especially when people only plan on living somewhere for a few years (college students, military, medium-term jobs)

How do you free up the housing market from landlords and investors while not screwing things up for people who would actually be better off renting?

Maybe, maybe not. If we’re going to bring totally unrelated industries into the mix, Spirit and JetBlue airlines had their merger blocked. Airlines and grocery stores have a bigger public interest in not having monopolies than theme parks, which often have arguable monopolies in many places already if a major city only has one theme park.

More importantly, you said that they’re already the same company. That is definitely not the case at this point.
