I never really got into it. I did enjoy cowboy bebop and have seen a couple ghibli films, but never went out of my way to watch anything else. I suppose it’s funny since I now live in Japan.

I hate to be a killjoy, but it’ll clearly be a single deposit layer dated to on or after the latest date-able item. The fill will all be the same and its own distinct layer against the rest of the area. If you have a long enough time to keep it open, want to dig more, and have different fills, you might be able to accomplish something, but the different fill materials would likely have no real match in the surrounding still making it obvious.

Mid-40s: it feels fine. It both complicates and un-complicates various things for later in life, but that’s life.

I do like kids, but never wanted my own (at least biologically; I never fully ruled out adoption). We have nieces and nephews we can spoil instead of our own, heh.

I eat the same thing several meals a week, mostly because I both like it and I cook in bulk. I do sometimes play with the seasoning.

Whatever meat I grilled, veg if any is handy, brown rice, cheddar cheese, and something spicy (I have more chili’s than I know what to do with and made Cowboy Candy for the first time so that gets tossed in; pickled jalapenos next, probably).

The LDP is huge and some people joint it even though not all views align (I assume there is some sort of loyalty/policy requirement, but I don’t know) to try to better their chances. So, based on my limited understanding, it’s one party but positions can vary to some degree.

Voter turnout can be pretty shit, for sure.

My area had two candidates run in the elections yesterday, but I don’t know which parties.

A lot of rural areas actually have decent benefits and subsidies for families and kids and they are broadly supported by most parties. One problem is people feel like there are no jobs or opportunities outside of agriculture, forestry, and manufacturing. They’re not necessarily wrong. Remote work is helping, but the anxiety of being recalled due of a new policy is there. I certainly live with that fear.

There are also worried about higher education for the kids and finding future partners (at least in the super rural areas in the latter case). Unlike Tokyo, for example, getting kids into public daycare and kindergarten is quite easy in the countryside so some do move in and later out for their kids.

It’s a complex situation and I don’t know that any party or group has a really good handle on it.

If you have a degree and come from a number of countries, that’s about all it takes to get a work visa. For English “teaching” (most jobs are glorified tape recorders from what I’ve read), you don’t much at all. I’ve been here almost 10 years and will be applying for my permanent residency shortly. Since I’ve come, they’ve actually made it easier to get PR, especially for younger people, with points systems.

We don’t know whom these people are voting for, but there is a (n at least to me) surprising amount of support for candidates left of the LDP in rural areas. The part of rural Japan I live in elected a rep from the Japanese Communist Party (which, despite their name, are more like democratic socialists; not sure why they refuse to change the name).

I get it, but humanity is really not prepared for WWIII.

We’re not even through the first half yet, so it’s pretty impossible to say, I think. BG3 could be in there, but we could also just be blown away by other things unforeseeable from here/now.

I use Mac for work and despise it. It also wouldn’t cover the national tax authority and other apps that don’t support mac (though some do support iOS,but those all also support android and not an issue there). They could have sneakily added Mac support whilst I wasn’t looking do I will definitely check again before deciding anything finally.

It’s not learning linux for me; I’ve worked with it professionally for over a decade at this point and started with old distros on floppy at home (with poor success; it got better once I got gentoo and broadband).

The pain of switching is non-zero, but it’s also not high. By this I mean just the process of moving data around, settings, etc.

Finding replacement apps can be annoying.

There are some things that still bother me, though. Certain games still won’t work or aren’t stable. This impacts some people more than others depending upon the type of game. For me, it’s still being gun shy because updates have caused me huge headaches including requiring a reinstall even in fairly recent times. I’ve had to fix one windows update problem in that same period of years and it did not require a full reinstall.

I have a full-time job, house/yard maintenance, and a small farming business. I require reliability with security (so not updating is not an option) and don’t have time to spend diagnosing and solving issues. I also can’t not fulfill orders, etc. because of an issue bother from a customer retention standpoint but also because when selling farm goods, those are mostly fresh produce with a limited TTL.

I have 12 months to reassess things, but I’m not liking my current position. It doesn’t help that a lot of the software for the Japanese side of things (tax office, accounting, etc.) do not have cloud versions and require Windows to work. I’m not sure if any of those work under WINE or similar at this stage.
