So a beach ball weights more than a bowling ball?

That’s an embargo.
A blockade is military stopping traffic. “Effectively a blockade” is an embargo.
Star Trek is attention grabbing. It doesn’t mean we should depend on time travel to save the whales. Not being able to separate fantasy from reality is not a scientific viewpoint. Actual education about any of this would be steering away from it, not into it.
The answer to all questions about advanced ancient civilizations existing is “probably not”. There are interesting examples that push back the earliest evidence of some things, like the Antikythera mechanism, but the only thing that is evidence of is that gears are older than previously thought. “Could there have been an ancient globe spanning civilization that only used wood or was on Antarctica or for some other reason has surviving no evidence?” is the same level of question as “Could there be a Discworld?”. The infeasibility of proving a negative is not the same as “yes this existed”.
Ancient Aliens level speculation on ancient civilizations is religion without a sacred text, inventing fantasies of a utopian past out of whole cloth because of an imagined fragment of a thread.
“What if every star was a human soul?” is not an interesting astronomy question to get people into astronomy. “Big Astronomy” not awarding grants to study that, is not a conspiracy. It’s due diligence.
Using a platform to say “What if [random speculation that has no basis and can’t be tested]” is not useful science outreach. It’s someone pretending to be science-y.
A person’s sole redeeming aspect being “being an engaging speaker” doesn’t make them a useful object lesson, it makes them yet another snake oil salesman. That’s not new or unique. That’s being a charlatan. Which is what people don’t like about Graham.
Half of windows settings is a button that says “additional settings” that opens up the full settings window that hasn’t changed since Win95. It’s absolutely insane that in a decade they haven’t managed to even replicate full functionality.
Agreed. It’s like how Emperor Hirohito did very important work.
Not the war. He spent the later half of his life meticulously collecting baseline data as a (rich and connected) marine biologist. It’s not exactly glamorous, but that data is a significant data point on how Climate Change is affecting ocean life. It’s a lot more pointed than “I swear there used to be more fireflies”.
This feels like the second round of this going around as the AI articles / lazy sites pick it up.
It’s a doc ‘sent’ to one guy who had 12 followers on medium before this started blowing up. It was edited after it was sent out to be the real marketing email of the company instead of a gmail address. The doc is still owned by that gmail account, which isn’t typically how companies operate.
I guess they’re getting their viral moment so good for them for generating content?
Yes, a return to the unstructured hellscape glory of unranked comments of yesteryear. Every thread starting with a resounding “First!!1!!”. Relevant or interesting things hidden on page 5 of 31. Spam lurking around every corner, as a treat.
Next up, Maxwell.
Turns out the secret to defeating entropy was demons all along.
Probably.
It’s like how Biden’s Student Loan plan was longer than the headline of “forgive x% of them” and people wrote paragraphs about how it also needed to do XYZ, without reading enough to see it did.
I remember them being noticeably louder. Unless you were in a library or a movie theater I don’t know why people cared all that much though.
In the US a few decades ago the big rail companies were given the ultimatum to upgrade their safety infrastructure or have a national speed limit of 79 mph imposed on them.
Guess which they did?
Project managers I know just forward emails and ask me to help keep them on track.
Hey they didn’t get that fancy PMP cert to do work.
/s, not /s. Project Managers are a force multiplier, some are just a negative force multiplier.
Disney is also actively arguing in court that if you use the free trial you can’t sue them for anything. Ever.
So there’s that to worry about now.
If you don’t care how long it takes to get there and can effectively use the ITN you don’t even need to leave going that fast.
Would love to get in on this if you’re still going.
If they have the same mass they weigh the same until you blow up the beach ball and are weighing the beach ball + the air inside.
