Girl. Fix your pants.
Kevin as always delivers epic soundtrack.
A bit cheesy themes, but the world and set up are unique enough to keep me interested.
Done!
“Army of Insatiable Emptiness”
sounds like us who watched too much anime
There is a void in my heart that never fills no matter how much anime I feed it.
stares at the moon dramatically
One of the more intriguing premieres so far this season. Strong hints of world building, story, character, etc. I hope it holds up.
Also, are we supposed to think this is the moon with some of her strength coming from the difference in gravity? (Not that it would actually work this way.) I wonder if this is another fantasy that will turn out to be layered on top of science fiction.
Some unsorted notes:
- Penkin’s gonna Penkin
- I’m intriegued by the world building
- Daughter is in the living room on a discord call with her friends playing Elden Ring and I’ve passed throught he room on the way to the kitchen screaming “CURSE YOU BAYLE!!!” at the top of my lungs. Has absolutely nothign to do with the episode but I thought I was funny and wanted to tell someone.
- Was the teacher real? Why the memory erasure. I didn’t quite get the reason.
- What’s wrong with her pants? That’s bothering me more than it should.
- I like the visuals/art style.
There’s a lot of really interesting plot threads in here, and the world building seems pretty extensive, but it felt like the pacing was really off to me. I like in medias res, but it always felt like they were holding back on explaining too many things. I think it would have paid off if they’d taken their time to build up our understanding of Belle’s current status quo and her relationship with Sian, and waited until next episode to tear them apart. My guess is the novels do a lot of this better, since they can utilize internal monologue, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like those are translated. I might check back in later in the season to see how people are liking this, but for now the storytelling is frustrating enough for me to give up on it.
Overall, I give this premiere a mixed 3/5
