Yes, because their ads are served on the same server (googlevideo.com iirc) as the actual videos. Blocking that domain would block the videos too.

https://esc.sh/projects/devops-from-scratch/ is a good resource. Most questions you have (that are more specific) are easily searchable on the internet.
ways to safely connect to home servers over the internet while away
A couple methods include :
when it may be better to spin up services on a VPS instead
Most services you probably won’t need a VPS to do, but off the top of my head a couple services which would be better hosted (not saying self-hosting them on your own hardware is bad) would be services which proxy a service. Example SearxNG, Invidious, Proxitok, etc. This is so that traffic can be shared among multiple users, and not linked back to your home IP.
A water kettle. Doesn’t have to be any fancy one, but it really fucking rocks for anything you might think of : want hot water for tea? No problem. Need hot water to steep something? No problem.
Most mid-range ones are insanely power efficient too, often being alot better than just boiling water on a stovetop, or using a microwave. And, depending on insulation, heat can be stored for over 6! hours.
Unfortunately do not use proton, but general consensus about compatibility works just fine without proton. Subdomains, to me, seem like a super easy way to identify someone - I’m going to be the only person using “abc.simplelogin.com”, basically the same as if I was using my real email.
Currently, since no one is talking about Firefox Relay, I’m between either Anonaddy or Simplelogin. They seem pretty similar according to the couple comments here.
Thank you for the feedback!
Duckduckgo has started this too. Very annoying.
Edit: just realised this post was from 3 years ago… I don’t know why this popped up lol.
You should consider switching to firefox. Brave will be affected by the elimination of Manifest V2, essentially killing privacy on chromium browsers (ubo doesnt work as well, privacy badger is useless, etc). An extremely easy way to switch to firefox without the hassle of configuring it be to private is to download the “Librewolf” fork - comes configured at stock with 99% of the privacy features firefox has.
I used to use Kavita for ebooks and it was a pain to organize them. I usually just dump a bunch of .epubs into books directory, but it only recognizes books INSIDE of a folder. So, I just made a script to create a folder using the exact name and put the epub in it.
I agree with this since I myself use PiHole, but it is redundant on a browser which uses ublock - and that was my original point.
But you have ublock? It’s just redundant at that point.
Pihole does nothing on YouTube as their ads are served on the save server as the videos.
Good news is that if lemmy.world doesn’t choose to defed Threads, all you have to do is migrate to another instance which does! One of the better benefits of this over Reddit.
Had this happen to me and I lost all my servers data, but regardless of a sever it keeps a local file which I imported to my new homelab
They somehow made the grinding in this game bad. In botw I was hooked on the grinding, but not on this new game, thank god for duping!
This was me when I started my journey; looking everywhere for anything that might peak an interest. Now that I’ve setup basically everything I wanted, the only time that I get something new is when I get curious and wonder if x can be self hosted.
Holy shit this is going to help me out! Thank you so fucking much man, definitely saved my ass more than once! Lol.
Side note : The photo embeds are amazing on Lemmy, idk if it’s just me but I way prefer it to Reddit.
Did you have a stroke commenting this 4 times? lol
Only Proton should be recommended for torrenting since it has port-forwarding. I don’t know why people love suggesting these even without port-forwarding.
